Working Together
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. (Philippians 2:1-2, NLT)
Friends,
I recently spoke with a momma who needed groceries for her family this month. I checked in with her, checked out the documents she had showing need, and after verifying the information I posted it on the Harvest Helps website. Then I waited.
Soon, a momma who has a small gaggle of her own kids gave to help this mom. Then another, who knows what it is like to have small mouths to feed. Then another, who is now a grandma and would never let anyone go hungry if she could help it. And in these people who give, I see Jesus.
You can’t miss it, can you? Showing love and offering comfort. Coming together. Loving the world around them – including a stranger they have never met. Saying “yes” when a “no” takes less time and effort.
The mom was overjoyed when I told her we could place a grocery order for her. I asked her for a list and she told me “whatever is possible is fine with us.” That, my friends, is not a very common attitude. As I continue working with this mom, I will also tell her about Jesus and about these other men, women, and families who are giving to help her – not because they want any glory or recognition, but because it all points to Jesus.
It's a beautiful thing to witness and I am so grateful to hold out hope.
In Christ,
Elizabeth Kilby
