Wedding Day?
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.” (Revelation 19:9, NIV)
Friends,
These are exciting days around the Kilby household. One of my wonderful daughters is getting married next week. Although there’s been plenty of work ongoing for more than a year now, all the labor is coming to an end. Now the wedding, the banquet, and the party are just around the corner. Out of town guests and family will be arriving in Dayton for the next few days as we make our final preparations. Although she’s always organized and quite the businesswoman, my daughter has taken on a new sense of urgency and hit new levels of detail as of late. She’s literally thought of everything! But her one complaint to me this week was a doozy. It seems the folks at her job as a Human Resources executive don’t want her responsibilities at work to take a back-seat to her wedding planning! But her groom? He’s all about it! We had dinner earlier this week and I can assure you, the anticipation of their union is written all over his face!
As I was reading through the preparations for the wedding of the Lamb (Revelation 19 (above)), it made me smile to think of the similarities. The groom (Jesus) can hardly wait to see His Bride! He’s been engaged to her (His Church) for two millennia now. And, although a “Day to the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8), I’m certain He’s through with all the waiting! And the Bride… sometimes I wonder if our level of anticipation and the urgency with which we work is what would be expected of someone who was truly, deeply, passionately in desperate love. Or does she get caught up in the things of this world that always seem to be a distraction? Certainly, we could all focus on our preparations for the Wedding of the Lamb. It won’t be long now!
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Jim Kilby
