Tools!
Maybe it's just the male hormones in me, but the fact remains that I'm addicted to tools. I don't have the collection some of my friends do, but I've got enough to do some pretty serious damage around the house if I choose to! The other day I reached into a drawer in the kitchen in an effort to get a screwdriver and tighten a loose screw. I know the junk drawer is not a toolbox or anything, but I always like to keep a few tools in there where I can get at them quickly. Unfortunately, the only tool in the drawer was an adjustable wrench. Sure, that's a great tool too, but it isn't much of a screwdriver! I looked and looked, but a screwdriver was not to be found. I wound up forgetting the job altogether, vowing to come back and fix it after I choked the kid who moved my screwdriver! (just kidding). As I was standing there holding the adjustable wrench, the biblical truth that immediately came to mind was that Christians have been created to do good works for the Lord, but not all of us are good for every job. I work predominately with youth and I enjoy it immensely. I can't even imagine the horrors of working with adults! I've got several friends who do shepherd large congregations of adults, however, and they count themselves blessed because they don't have teenagers calling them 24/7! I used to think I was unworthy of the Lord's praises because I just didn't have a calling to shepherd a congregation. All the while, it seems he was preparing me to do something else entirely. Even if you don't look like all the other tools in the drawer, YOU are also a tool that God can use. The Lord God has a job that He's preparing you for. Are you ready, willing and able? If so, then just keep your eyes open... He'll bring it to light before you know it.
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
