The Low Point
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV)
Friends,
So often, the people who reach out to Harvest for help are in very low, lows in their lives. Whether facing homelessness, food shortages, utilities being turned off, or whatever it may be, they usually reach out when the situation is bleak. I have gone through phases in my life when things were tough, and I find those seasons are often when I call out to God the most. While I’m often asking for answers, reassuring myself of His goodness, and reminding myself He has not yet failed me, I also often wonder what in the world it would look like if I didn’t have faith and reassurance.
My goal, when people reach out for help, is to help them whenever possible SO I have the opportunity to tell them they are seen, they are loved, and God has not forgotten them. I am always hopeful that perhaps this interaction will add on to what they know or have been told about a good God who sees them, and perhaps will lead them to call out to God themselves.
I am grateful for the opportunity RECENLTY (I have not already shared these) to tell a woman who is coming out of homelessness, to tell a family who needed food after being out of work for health reasons, and to tell someone who needs food because of a job situation that God loves them and sees them! Our God is good. Let us sing it from the rooftops!
Blessings,
Elizabeth Kilby
